Guernica
Dave Boling
A first novel centred on the 1937 bombing of the Basque town of Guernica. It follows two linked families, in Guernica and Lekeitio, beginning with the Ansotegui brothers, shepherds turned fisherman and priest. On April 26, 1937, Miren Ansotegui Navarro is in the marketplace with her baby daughter and her mother when the German planes attack. In the aftermath the families smuggle Jews and stranded RAF pilots out of Nazi Europe. A story of courage and resilience that celebrates an embattled culture.
