Book of Joan

Set in the near future, world wars have turned the earth into a battleground and the surviving humans have retreated to a platform called CIEL hovering over their former home. They have become sexless, hairless, pale creatures inscribing stories on their skin. A cult leader, Jean de Men, turns CIEL into a quasi-corporate police state, and rebels unite to dismantle his rule, galvanized by the song of Joan, a child warrior with a mysterious force.
