My thoughts

WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT THIS BOOK OMG this books needs to reach the masses this is such a bful book i don't even know where to begin praising. Okay first thing, this is NOT a happy book. It's a very real representation of slavery and crimes associated with it, mental health issues and queer things. So if you are expecting some bright chirpy queer scenes then no DON'T. 1Trigger warnings for all of the above mentioned things. Now, coming to the queer rep: the main character(aster) is gender non-conforming, so is one other character. Aster is also somewhere on the autistic spectrum. There are many other asexuals, bisexuals etc SO THERE IS A DIVERSE REPRESENTATION YES. “I am a boy and a girl and a witch all wrapped into one very strange, flimsy, indecisive body. Do you think my body couldn't decide what it wanted to be?” As far as the plot goes, it is set up in a spaceship called Matilda which is ruled by white supremacists and there are parts that are slave narrative and get very graphic with the descriptions. After a series of events Aster is somehow in the middle of finding out the secrets of her late mother's life and what she discovered about the ship. As the story progresses we also see some very real mental health issues and how they affect everyday things. The only thing I think this book misses a tad bit is to wrap up all the ideas in a smooth end? like yes there was a potential for a lot of the ideas to grow out better but they got lost in implementation, but still with the whole representation and depiction this book definitely hits the right spots. If dark sci-fi is your thing YOU HAVE TO READ IT!!!!
