My thoughts

3/5stars Death must exist for life to have meaning. Definitely suffered from Middle book syndrome. It was fine but WTF was that ending??? Y'all the ending???!?!?!?! PLEASE WHAT IN THE HOLY HELL WAS THAT- if we were judged by the things we most regret, no human being would be worthy to sweep the floor. I don't even want to begin talking about Rowan's arc, CAN WE GIVE THAT BOY A BREAK??? please he has had the worst possible circumstances and did the best of it, and yet this is what he gets?? He deserved better, fuck moving th plot/story forward idc that poor boy tho :/ While freedom gives rise to growth and enlightenment, permission allows evil to flourish in a light of day that would otherwise destroy it. I really hope the third installment does his better than this. I am not super excited to read it, but I will. Eventually. That being said, I did love the political setting and the plotting and planning of the scythedom in this book. CWs for the book: Self harm, Suicide, Murder, Graphic Physical Violence
