My thoughts
2 gracious stars it clearly doesn't deserve That’s the point of luck: it happens when and where it happens. No. Just a big huge no. NOPE. As much I enjoyed the witty banter and I'm always a sucker for enemies to lovers but this was just not it. Some things are just a dealbreaker and your brother-in-law being a lying cheating asshole who is an absolute shit generally trying to HIT ON YOU is very high on that list of no-go's. The beautiful island descriptions were really amazing, and the idea of winning an all-encompassed trip to one of those was very appealing. But, the moment I was beyond the 50% mark in this book I was just getting more annoyed with every page. No, because let me list this out for you I HAVE AN ARRAY OF PROBLEMS with this book- 1. Although the main character and her twin obviously have a very understanding and loving relationship and they tell each other everything, she decided to not tell her twin the MOST IMPORTANT THING EVER up until she absolutely had to? 2. Despite having (as it was evident) a very beautiful twin relationship, her sister obviously does not believe her and accuses her of lying. Because, why not? Right? 3. Oh and the supposed love interest who is portrayed to be head over heels for the main character also doesn't believe her even tho she has absolutely NO REASON to make that up. And who in their right mind would make up stories about being hit on by your brother-in-law in a cheap disgusting manner anyway?? 4. Lastly, can we talk about the million other things this book tried to do but failed miserably? Like it started out as a romance novel and it should have stuck to that? why did we have to see an absolutely non-sensical half-assed career trope? And the whole "Never settle, find your true passion" bullshit was just unnecessary tbh. 5. The other thing this book tried but absolutely failed to do was represent fat bodies realistically. Our main character is obviously fat, because hey brownie points for representation right? She proceeds to call herself sexy and beautiful and I'm on board up until this point, yass queen you should love your body no matter what but then THE VERY MOMENT she proceeds to want male validation for her curves? I get that you are in love bro wtf? I absolutely abhor this trope and will never ever like any form of media that does this. yupp, I have more to go on about what absolute both the brothers were but I think this is enough. I just cannot. Ugh. I'm still mad. So mad. No, I will not be reading any more of Christina Lauren's books. Or maybe I will? [yes I'm a masochist we all know that :)] Book Trigger warnings for talk of cheating (not the main characters), A LOT of talk about food and bodies, Emesis, Fatphobia, Manipulation, and Toxic relationship
