My thoughts

4.5/5 stars as we count up the memories from one journey, we head off on another. remembering those who went ahead. remembering those who will follow after. and someday, we will meet all those people again, out beyond the horizon. A book told from the perspective of a cat? Hell yes, I AM SOLD thank you very much! This book gives an idea about exactly what goes in a sassy smart street cat's head and how all animals are smarter than we give them credit for. This book has all sorts of moments- really fucking funny bits to pages that made me bawl my eyes out because cats are such precious precious animals and I don't think humans come even close to understanding them. All of this in just 250 pages?!?! Boy, was I surprised!! But again, always happy to find another gem of a book and yes I will not shut up about it for eternity now. Although, fair warning for people looking for a very plot-heavy book here- let me just say it out loud, NO. This is more like a slice-of-life kind of day-to-day experience of a boy growing up and his relationships with cats. A stray cat’s skill lies in building up a complex web of connections in order to survive on the streets. So if any of this feels like your jam or you are someone who loves cats as much as I do, I am sure you will enjoy it very much! Book Trigger Warnings- There is nothing too severe in this book but yes mention of the death of both animals and humans (slightly graphic), there is a usual early 2000s misogyny and some mention of accidents and diseases.
