Michelle Zauner
In this unflinching, powerful memoir, Michelle Zauner, indie rock musician of Japanese Breakfast fame, tells of growing up Korean American, losing her mother, and forging her own identity. She recounts her childhood as one of the few Asian American kids at her school in Eugene, Oregon, her mother's high expectations, a painful adolescence, and treasured months in her grandmother's apartment in Seoul bonding over heaping plates of food. When her mother is diagnosed with terminal cancer, Zauner must reckon with her identity and reclaim the gifts of taste, language and history her mother gave her.

My thoughts
it feels v weird rating this memoir anything but 5 stars. believe me i stayed up all night yday sobbing every other chapter. the cultural and food descriptions mouth watering and the grief so personal yet so vivid. even tho i haven't experienced this particular experience (seeing some loved one die in front of you) but still it pained me to read it and honestly by the end it felt i almost lived those experience. the writing is a little disjointed at times but no critique for MZ's experiences is worth it bcs this feels more like a story more for herself than any reader. (heavy content warnings for death, cancer, abortion, infidelity etc- pls look them up before going into this one)
