Munnu: A Boy From Kashmir opens Goodreads in a new tab

Malik Sajad

Seven-year-old Munnu is growing up in Indian-administered Kashmir with his family: Mama, Papa, his sister Shahnaz and his brothers Adil, Akhtar and Bilal. His childhood unfolds against a backdrop of conflict, with military identification parades, school closures and the rupturing of mixed communities. Closely based on the author's own childhood, this graphic novel draws all Kashmiris as hangul deer, the national animal of the region. It questions every aspect of the Kashmir situation, including the faults and responsibilities of every side, the history of the region and the possibilities for the future.
