My thoughts

3.5 ⭐️ rounded down. Goodreads needs to stop wrongly categorising books. This is not a mystery/thriller novel. This is in fact, a family drama- lit fic/women’s fic book. and had I known that I would have gone into this book with different expectations, and probably liked it a lot more than I did. Having said that, I did enjoy parts of this book a lot. For example, the themes surrounding transracial family structures and the conversations around China’s one child policy and the aftermath and repercussions of that in the day-to-day life of the people were certainly interesting. but still, there are a lot of plot holes in the story which lead an accurate after taste of sorts specially considering the fact that this is not the author’s debut work, and this was also nominated for the 2023 Goodreads choice award in the mystery category? (seriously, what goes on?) All in all, this was a good read, just misplaced and wrongly shelved and I would definitely love to check out more of this author’s works.
