My thoughts

2.5 ⭐️ so there were two things i really REALLY liked about this book and they were 1. the nuanced conversations about emotional abuse, and how it often stems from family members only. they even talked about how victims can also act as enablers sometimes which was a very good thoughtful conversation and needs to be has more often. 2. the mmc is small town carpenter who runs his own B&B has the whole lumberjack vibe is insanely hot and is just perfect. yk a guy written by a woman? but my problem is with the fmc. she is 37 (?38) and the mmc is 28 (?27) and she treats him LIKE A BABY like coddles him for 60% of the book. even more. hated every bit of it HE IS A GROWN ASS MAN NOT A CHILD PLS STOP TREATING HIM AS ONE BCS HE IS SIGNIFICANTLY YOUNGER THAN YOU. (although the choice of making the fmc older and a lot older was unique and appreciated) she is ALSO SO PRIVILEGED and i usually i eat up stories where one person is obnoxiously rich and the other one is barely making ends meet etc etc. BUT THIS WOMAN DID NOT EVEN KNOW WHAT A BROOM IS? or how to peel potatoes? or how to flip a breaker? that is some level of entitlement i cannot ever get behind. and the fact that suddenly after 2 trips to the guy’s small town when her friends come to visit said small town (and live in the mmc’s B&B) our fmc starts realising how privileged and annoying the other two women are? LIKE GIRL YOU ARE THE SAME??? and one last thing, idk what the author was trying to do with throwing in some magical realism bits in just for shits and giggles but it did not work. wym the freaking town came alive and started throwing lightning and branches and acorns to stop her from breaking up 😭 this makes it sound like i ABSOLUTELY hated it but it was just meh really. even the sex scenes were cringe lol.
