My thoughts

1.75 ⭐️ the times were indeed, not exciting at all. “I wanted other people to care more about me than I did about them.” yes this is a copy of sally rooney’s normal people but make it queer-er. no wonder she did endorse this and i absolutely hated reading it lmfao. the amount of time it took me to finish this book should be indication enough. there is some clear dialogue about language and it’s perception but that is about with the good in this book. writing a book set in a certain country (which wouldn’t be a first choice given the main character are white) and then proceeding to completely skip mentioning anything about political environment and ongoing events (spare a few random words and phrases thrown in the mix just for the sake of it) - is certainly a choice. “I enjoyed his money and he enjoyed how easily impressed I was by it.” that would have been fine too, if there was any other substance to the story. yes Ava is fucking stupid and continues to try and justify her hilariously ridiculous actions over and over again. but for exactly how long will that be entertaining to watch?
