My thoughts
4.25/5 ⭐️ I wish her everything good. A friendly cab driver and short lines through security. A flight with no turbulence and an empty seat next to her. A beautiful Christmas. I wish her more happiness than can fit in a person. I wish her the kind of happiness that spills over. We Are Okay? We Are? ARE WE REALLY THOUGH? who’s we cause i am violently sobbing here girl? idk what made me wait so long to pick this one up. It was just one of those books I saw someone on the tl talk about and added to my never ending tbr without thinking much about it but then recently I saw oomf post a photo of one of the pages of the book tear-stained and all, and that got me curious. but like they say, curiosity fucking kills because i’ve lost the will to live or do anything and i just wanna curl up in a ball and sob endlessly. Nina LaCour you are so evil for writing this omg (I will be reading everything else by you now) I thought I knew who he was, but he was a stranger all along, and how do I mourn a stranger? And if the person I loved wasn't even a person, then how can he be dead? GIRL WHAT THE FUCK. brb gonna go sob some more. It's a dark place, not knowing. It's difficult to surrender to. But I guess it's where we live most of the time. I guess it's where we all live, so maybe it doesn't have to be so lonely. Maybe I can settle into it, cozy up to it, make a home inside uncertainty. this is a very character driven, not much happens plot-wise book that deals with the internalisation of grief and how our fmc Marin deals with a huge loss. It is raw, beautiful and heart-breaking. but if character driven YA coming of age stories aren’t your jam, I’d caution against this one. I wonder if there's a secret current that connects people who have lost something. Not in the way that everyone loses something, but in the way that undoes your life, undoes your self, so that when you look at your face it isn't yours anymore.
