In summer 1949, in the aftermath of the 1948 war, Israeli soldiers massacre a Bedouin encampment in the Negev desert and rape and kill a Palestinian girl. Decades later, a young woman in Ramallah reads about the crime and becomes obsessed with it, partly because it happened exactly twenty-five years before she was born. Two parallel narratives of equal length overlay each other to evoke a present forever haunted by the past.
