Ancillary Justice (Imperial Radch, #1) opens Goodreads in a new tab

The soldier known as Breq is the sole survivor of a starship destroyed by treachery, and she is also the vessel of that ship's artificial consciousness, once controlling thousands of bodies and now confined to a single human form. Her goal is revenge against the ruler of the Radch, the vast interstellar empire that made her what she is. Ann Leckie's debut explores identity, gender and colonialism, and won the Hugo, Nebula and Arthur C. Clarke awards.
