Blue Sisters opens Goodreads in a new tab
Coco Mellors
The three Blue sisters are estranged. Avery, the eldest, is a recovering addict turned strait-laced lawyer living in London with her wife. Bonnie is a former boxer working as a bouncer in Los Angeles after a devastating defeat. Lucky, the youngest, models in Paris while trying to outrun her hard-partying ways. When their fourth sister, Nicky, dies unexpectedly, they return a year later to New York to stop the sale of the apartment where they grew up. A story of grief, family and what it takes to keep living after loss.

My thoughts
my first cue to dnf should have been the painstakingly months it took for me to finish it. literally had a whole ass reading slump, came out of it and yet decided to continue on and finish this somehow. to the good parts- good representation of sisterhood and the nuances of those relationships. addiction and it’s aftermath was handled well too. some decent quotes and writing in there. but the bad- the author tried to cover a lot of broad topics (for various characters and their personalities) but none of them felt true. the token DEI character, the weird as fuck scene with the lesbian character, the blatant misinformation about endometriosis, the very unnecessary and random mention of an israeli? especially given the author’s stance is “neutral” on the ongoing genocide- whatever that neutrality is supposed to mean. if the aforementioned things do not bother you, and if you are just looking to read a decently well written book on sisterhood- this will be perfect for you. yes no book is supposed to be perfect, but with the hype i was hearing about this one- this seemed to have been a “modern classic” and it very well might still be. but is definitely not a 5 star i will never stop raving about it sort of book for me. anyway, i am glad i managed to actually finish it- however long it took.
