My thoughts
even tho this is a very old(the book was first published in the late 1970s) and very fictional account of Dana, a black person who is someone able to not only travel thousands of kilometers in moments but also over periods of time [not a spoiler, you get to know this in the very first chapter]- IT FEELS SO MUCH LIKE A MEMOIR. Like a true account, because of the fairly accurate descriptions of slavery and racism and people's views of inter-race marriages? IT'S A CLASSIC AND DEF GONNA BE ONE OF MY BEST READS THIS YEAR COUS FEMINISM MEETS SCI-FI, hell yes i am in!! It was my first Butler book and i recently got to know that she's an award winning Sci-fi writer so i am definitely picking up more of her works sometime soon. This book is a homage to black women and their sufferings at the hands of white supremacists. The whole trope of female emancipation and strong female protagonist is definitely a plus. I won't spoil the end but Dana's actions towards the end of the book were definitely unexpected and praise-worthy! So if you still haven't read this book and wanna read something sci-fi YOU SHOULD CERTAINELY PICK THIS ONE UP.
