Concerning My Daughter opens Goodreads in a new tab
Kim Hye-jin
A widowed, aging mother allows her thirty-something daughter Green to move into her apartment, hoping she will find a stable life with a good husband and a family. But Green arrives with her long-term girlfriend, and the mother is enraged and unwilling to welcome the relationship. Told in a stream-of-consciousness voice from the mother's perspective, this prize-winning debut confronts familial love, duty, mortality and the generational divide, while touching on the cost of living, discrimination against LGBTQ people, ageing and loneliness in South Korean society. My thoughts
3.5🌟 barely?? cultural insight with a very realistic older narrator/ main character- which obviously means she is annoying as fuck. i appreciate the story- the mother daughter relationship but not necessarily my fav.
