The Astral Library opens Goodreads in a new tab

Kate Quinn

Alix Watson is a twenty-six-year-old foster-care survivor struggling to make ends meet in Boston, who finds solace in books at the Boston Public Library. There she discovers a magic portal to the Astral Library, a place where patrons can live inside books of their choosing. The rules are strict: the book must be in the public domain, Alix cannot become a named character, and the story cannot be changed. When a mysterious force threatens the library, Alix and the enigmatic Librarian journey through literary worlds, from Austen's drawing rooms to Gatsby's parties, to save it.

My thoughts

so American people are mad that books written by American authors have socio-political commentary about American Politics? lol okay. lmao even. while the fantasy elements fell a lil rushed/flat to me, the book is still quite enjoyable & very much relevant lol. yes i do want my books to have relevant societal commentary and especially when it is about public spaces being monetised and libraries being defunded, thank you very much.
