Six Crimson Cranes (Six Crimson Cranes, #1) opens Goodreads in a new tab

Shiori'anma, the only princess of Kiata, has a secret: forbidden magic runs in her veins. On the morning of her betrothal ceremony she loses control, catching the attention of her stepmother Raikama, a sorceress who banishes her and turns her six brothers into cranes. Raikama warns that for every word Shiori speaks, one of her brothers will die. Penniless, voiceless and alone, Shiori sets out to find her brothers, aided by her spurned betrothed, a capricious dragon and a paper bird brought to life by her magic, and uncovers a dark conspiracy to seize the throne.
